Learning Spanish, different options.

March 26th, 2008 by postwriter1

It was Federico Fellini who said that a different language is a different view of life. And I think that is important to bear this forever. And also, I think it is important to remember that a different culture gives a new depth to the same language.

Just think about what they are different and similar to both the Americans and the British. The same happens with the various Spanish-speaking societies, each one has much to say about its society, its traditions and its relevance today.

Learning Spanish allows that you can throw yourself to a new world, the culture and the context of a culture that it is not ours. Also, we opened our eyes to see the reality from a different angle.

It’s more fun to understand what “güero” is, than smile like a silly when someone says so, and also understand the meaning of the word and not just upset by this. When we can not really understand one language, we also can not have access to its culture, it is impossible.

If you do, at least, the attempt to learn Spanish can be proud to know that you are making the effort to understand a new world that is just one language away.

I do not know how much globalization affects the importance of languages but at least it has allowed for better or worse, that you have access to various cultural events throughout the world. Maybe it is not the best or the most complete, but at least a small outline is enough for making an interest.

Mexico has a wide variety of cultural events, and I am not saying because f the cultures that were in ancient times, but because social groups that now are also struggling to speak and find an identity within any alienation and globalization.

There is much to see and learn in this world. Not everything is in English, as an English-speaking thinks sometimes foolishly. The world surpasses the language and gives us a world full of languages, not only of nations but also of individuals, as such, have much to say.

Lately I have been interested in the Mexican mythology; I called it in that way, because I am not studied in a deep way on the Mayan, Aztec and others cultures, but I am really surprised of the richness of its traditions. Because I have a career job, I am now researching the legend of El Dorado. Of course, I avoid seeing the Disney movie about it.

Incidentally, my nephew that is in an elementary school used to see something in Spanish “Madness of Emperor”, a program that Disney created, wrongly, made references to Mexico but in the end it was Peru. The thing is that it is poorly that series, full of prejudices and at the same time arbitrary; so it ends giving wrong information to the children about those cultures besides feeding them with humor and cheap ridicule the purest style of the Americans.

Having so many things to learn, these drawings only breed ignorance in the worst way.

I can not learn Spanish, problems for studying a language.

March 4th, 2008 by postwriter1

Many people can speak positive o negative about learning any language, but, until you really have a serious problem of learning, there is no impossible thing when you decide to study with determination one language.

Though travels language do not work for all of us, I believe that it is good to think that in some way these act on the students, in an important way.

As well as not all the persons we do not learn to the same rhythm, people that pass for similar experiences, have identical conclusions completely.

Whereas there are people that I know that doing these student travels language, they really have taught very much the Spanish (more than they could wait learn in a normal course). There are other ones who scarcely learned the necessary thing but, it did not discourage them of travels, because they realized that though, being people who was not easy to learn anything of the language, they think that now they know a society who before was a myth and a stereotype.

And, it seems to me that it is something important for a travel language. In this case, traveling to Mexico, it offers you the opportunity to submerge in Spanish language completely. Learning it correctly in formal classes, but also coexisting with the language in its real context.

Besides this, you can be able to perceive with your own eyes, located in external influence or commentaries of third ones, how this society is really.

There is something that I cannot stand, it is the prejudice, or early judgment about a place or people without knowing them totally.

It is true that Mexico could be a country with conflicts, but also it is true that if its policy is corrupt, not everybody is trying to fool you, or to defraud you, or to suggest you an act of corruption. I think, my worse experience with “badly meaningful” people were when I was in Rome, when I was seventeen years old more or less, and there was no place for lodging. I found a hotel but the owner tried to fool me (I paid several bills more).

Several years later I returned to this city with two Italian friends who showed me how “to ‘live” in this city. In fact, the truth is that if you do not know the language, in this case the Italian, you are staying beside.

I believe that the principal problems to learn a language start when you do not stop comparing it with yours. Also, if you do not dedicate real time to study and practice, it is difficult that you achieve something, and this is worse if you take a travel language and you are not responsible.

We must be conscientious because we can blame a teacher but often the principal problems to learn a language, are generated by us due to the weakness or laziness.
