Learning Spanish, different options.

March 26th, 2008 by postwriter1

It was Federico Fellini who said that a different language is a different view of life. And I think that is important to bear this forever. And also, I think it is important to remember that a different culture gives a new depth to the same language.

Just think about what they are different and similar to both the Americans and the British. The same happens with the various Spanish-speaking societies, each one has much to say about its society, its traditions and its relevance today.

Learning Spanish allows that you can throw yourself to a new world, the culture and the context of a culture that it is not ours. Also, we opened our eyes to see the reality from a different angle.

It’s more fun to understand what “güero” is, than smile like a silly when someone says so, and also understand the meaning of the word and not just upset by this. When we can not really understand one language, we also can not have access to its culture, it is impossible.

If you do, at least, the attempt to learn Spanish can be proud to know that you are making the effort to understand a new world that is just one language away.

I do not know how much globalization affects the importance of languages but at least it has allowed for better or worse, that you have access to various cultural events throughout the world. Maybe it is not the best or the most complete, but at least a small outline is enough for making an interest.

Mexico has a wide variety of cultural events, and I am not saying because f the cultures that were in ancient times, but because social groups that now are also struggling to speak and find an identity within any alienation and globalization.

There is much to see and learn in this world. Not everything is in English, as an English-speaking thinks sometimes foolishly. The world surpasses the language and gives us a world full of languages, not only of nations but also of individuals, as such, have much to say.

Lately I have been interested in the Mexican mythology; I called it in that way, because I am not studied in a deep way on the Mayan, Aztec and others cultures, but I am really surprised of the richness of its traditions. Because I have a career job, I am now researching the legend of El Dorado. Of course, I avoid seeing the Disney movie about it.

Incidentally, my nephew that is in an elementary school used to see something in Spanish “Madness of Emperor”, a program that Disney created, wrongly, made references to Mexico but in the end it was Peru. The thing is that it is poorly that series, full of prejudices and at the same time arbitrary; so it ends giving wrong information to the children about those cultures besides feeding them with humor and cheap ridicule the purest style of the Americans.

Having so many things to learn, these drawings only breed ignorance in the worst way.
